... of Politics

Dec 1/04: Where to go with the latest on China? The Washington Post has discovered Christians in China. Oh my!

Chinese Christians Are a Force, But What Kind?
Shocked by the rapid transition of Chinese society, unconvinced that capitalism alone can provide a fulfilling life, and divorced from traditional culture, many younger Chinese have been turning to religion.

Unconvinced by capitalism? What, like "capitalism" needs "convincing"?

Before you misunderstand me here, here's the Bromley manta on that Marxist word, "capitalism": ALL ECONOMICS ARE POLITICS.

Whatever "capitalism" may be in China, it ain't a free market, and it ain't liberty. Capitalism was quite at home in the Kaiser's Germany, equally so in Hitler's. Dare we say, too, that Stalin practiced, albeit in a cruel form, capitalism? At least the socialists of the early 1900s were honest about this, such as the Socialist mayor of Schenecdtady, NY, who in 1912 said of the giant trusts of the day:

"The only thing necessary is to change the ownership."

I dream of ridding the political discourse of the word "capitalism." Please, let us speak for what truly benefits mankind, and "capitalism" may have a part in it, but only a part, and not the essence -- try: "liberty," "freedom of association," and "the pursuit of happiness."
